Seamless Video Transition

Post by Tungro » Sun Dec 09, 2012 8:40 am

Hi,

For a production we're doing, there's a need to have a looping bit of video (think of a "holding" video), replaced by a video segment by manual cue, then back to the looping cue. The problem I have when going from one video cue to another is about two seconds of blackness. This is using SCS 11.1.4 and SCS 10.9.5, using Directshow (xVideo in 10 freezes on my machine sadly, and isn't available in 11 yet as far as I can tell). Any advice or tips anyone might have to achieve this?

Kind regards,

-T

The best way to play consecutive videos is to not use an SFR cue to stop the first video but to just start playing the second video. SCS will automatically stop the first video when the second video starts (assuming they are both being played to the same screen).

When you say "then back to the looping cue", do you have a new cue for this continuation of the looping cue, or are you using a 'GoTo' cue to go back to the original cue? If you are using a 'GoTo' then SCS may take some time to reload the looping video cue - but if you avoid using an SFR cue on the intervening manual cue then that would help.

What SCS license level do you have?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The issue I have is that I'm not using an SFR cue to stop the first video, but instead going right into the next video. The video's encoded the same, same resolution etc, yet there's a two-second (approx) pause of blackness. I can see the next video is ready (loaded and good to go) yet there still seems to be this gap.

I'm open to suggestions on how to go "back" to the looping video cue. At the moment, I was just going to add the looping video back in as a new cue as it seemed the easiest way of doing it. I'm not worried about hibernating and resuming it from where it stopped before.

I've got SCS Professional (til April 2013).

Kind regards,
