What is the best run mode for my job?

Post by PeterH » Fri Feb 24, 2012 8:15 am

Hi, I would like your support on this one. Suppose I have a sequence of ten cues, numbered 1 to 10. Those are a mix of audio and video cues.

I want to start at 1, goto 2, 3, and so on. Sometimes my cues will end by themselves, sometimes I shorten them by right clicking to get the next. Depending on the performer. So far a normal show.

But at a certain point in time (depending on the moment, so not the same every show) say at cue 8 this time, I want to go back to number 3. And sequentially play 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 again.

What seems to happen now is that when I do this (left click 3, right click to start) SCS skips certain cues in the second run which it assumes 'completed'. But I want it to play all cues again, regardless if I have seen/heard them before.

Any ideas?

The linear run mode (which is the default) will provide this. But note that when you go back to an earlier cue (3 in your example) this will not stop any cue that is currently playing, or any cue that is currently 'counting down'. So if cue 8 is currently playing it will keep playing. Then when cue 8 ends it will be marked as 'completed'.

If you want to go back to cue 3 while cue 8 is still playing, hit ESC before clicking on cue 3.

Hmm ok. The part about hitting escape rings a bell. Indeed when jumping back, the current cue keeps playing. And when starting a previous one, the former current one is set to completed. And will be skipped because of that later on. Although I did not expect it, at least it makes sense now. I was hoping for a ' discard what you are doing' click, but indeed escape can do that. Downside is that it takes some extra clicks and some time, but nothing major :-)

I'm trying to make my cue list as fool/full proof as possible, as several people have to execute it. So easiest way out would have been to just have them click the cue to go back to, and right click again to proceed every cue. May be I can determine the positions which will be used for such a jump and add some SFR cue to do just that.

Thanks again Mike. And still enjoying your work!

By the way.. as a feature request (I know there is a forum for it) it would be nice to have a playlist cue which accepts a folder name instead of single files. This would allow me to show a bunch of pictures of which I do not know the names beforehand. In future shows during the show I will get a memory card which contains pictures made of the audience that same evening to be shown in a slide show at the end. I'm going to try to use an external program for it now, started by SCS. But integration would be the bomb! ;-)
