How to STOP one Cue and Go Right to New Cue

Post by smbrown » Wed Jun 08, 2011 2:36 pm

Here is the question:

We are doing a stage-play that has a large number of sound cues...some of these cues START when the actor says or does something...
some Cues have to STOP ....for example...as soon as the actor picks up the telephone that's ringing...and then another CUE starts immediately.

All of these cues are "on the fly" based on "when" the actor does something...a verbal cue...or a visual cue to the sound director.

What is the easiest way to accomplish this with my SCS, Vers. 10.7.5?
It's the START--STOP--START issue that I'm asking about.

Thanks,

Steve in Wisconsin ,USA

If I understand your requirements correctly then the easiest solution is to use two cues. The first cue would be your telephone ring, and the second cue would have two sub-cues: the first sub-cue would be to play your next audio file, and the second sub-cue would stop the phone ring.

For example:

Q1: Audio file - phone ring, manual start.

Q2<1>: Audio file - next sound, manual start
Q2<2>: SFR to Stop Q1

So you have Q1 playing - phone is ringing. Actor picks up phone and you hit space bar or whatever you prefer for starting the next manual cue. This activates Q2 which starts the next sound and also stops the phone ring.

It doesn't really matter in which order you have the sub-cues for Q2, so if you prefer to have the SFR sub-cue first, that's fine.

Mike:
I tried that. I have a sample set of cues loaded. All in MANUAL ACTIVATION. After the First Cue begins, I hit the SPACE Bar and the NEXT CUE (as in Q2) BEGINS...BUT, Q1 is STILL PLAYING.

If I hit the SPACE BAR 4 times...ALL CUES START PLAYING...one after another...and now...what I have...is...ALL CUES ARE PLAING at the SAME TIME.

Please talk me thru making each "previous" CUE STOP when it hit the SPACE BAR when NEXT Q begins.

Thanks.

Mike:
I just ADDED THE SFR CUE "STOP" After each Cue that I need to Go to...and IT DOES WORK.

Obviously I don't need that for each one...I need to make sure that I do not have the SFR STOP Q if I don't need it for a series of Cues.

Any other TIPS to throw out at me??

Thanks,

Steve
