Unsupported file format in 10.7.6 under WS7 64-bit[resolved]

In the past few days I have been experiencing the slow death of my 7-year-old laptop (display with odd patterns and refusing to go beyond VGA). It was running Windows XP with SP3. I have replaced it with a Sony machine running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I am in the process of installing all the applications I ran before, finding new versions where necessary. I have successfully installed SCS 10.7.6, although I had a bit of a struggle getting it to accept the authorization string. From the backup I ran the most recent show still on the machine, which has a mix of .wav files and .m4a files obtained through iTunes. Although the show ran perfectly well on the old machine, SCS now reports that the .m4a files are an unsupported file format. I have loaded iTunes on the machine, although not yet the whole of the library which included those files. They are, however, of recent purchase that don't have DRM as far as I know. iTunes plays items on the store happily, so the necessary driver is present.

Any ideas? Could it be anything to do with the Sony being over-protective?

m4a files are not directly supported by the BASS audio library used by SCS, but a BASS add-on is available that will provide this support. On your XP machine you probably have a file named bass_alac.dll in the program folder containing scs10.exe. I'll email you details of how to get the latest version.

Many thanks for the quick response. In fact I found that bass_alac.dll was not the answer (i.e. it didn't work) . I was able to inspect the drive of the old machine and found bass_aac.dll there (but not bass_alac.dll). I suspect you added it in the bundle when you first enabled mp3 playing.

Guided by your pointer I went to the same site, found the extension, installed it and all is well.
