Permanent Options changing between sessions

Post by Theatre III Sound » Wed Apr 06, 2011 1:38 pm

We're having an odd problem with the PC used to run SCS at the theatre. Every once in a while when the system is booted and SCS is started, the SCS Internal Mixer option has changed from "Do NOT use" to "Use". This system has a Presonus Firebox as an audio device and the list of Speakers/Outputs changes depending on whether the internal mixer is used or not. Because of this, sounds end up being routed to different speakers than intended.

I'm the person who set up the options for SCS for the current show and I had initially chosen the "Do NOT use" option. Everyone who touches this system swears they have not been changing this option. but tonight when I started SCS, the "Use SCS internal mixer" was set instead.

Is there a situation where SCS would change this option on its own? If not, how could this happen?

Can't think of any reason for this to happen. Which version of SCS are you using? The default setting was changed in 10.7.5 from "Use SCS internal mixer" to "Do NOT use SCS internal mixer". The setting is stored in the Windows Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SCS10\Options\DrvUseSCSMixer. Are you always logging in to Windows with the same Windows account?

Just a thought, is this anyway connected with SCS starting up before the FW/USB has been discovered and the drivers set up by the OS, if SCS starts before this, then it wont find the selected devices and use defaults.
