SCS 10.7.0 now available

Post by Mike Daniell » Fri Jun 04, 2010 9:06 am

Registered users with current update plans (including users who purchased or upgraded their SCS license during the last 12 months) may now download SCS 10.7.0 from the Members' Download page.

The following changes are included in 10.7.0:
  • By default, video cues are now played using DirectShow rather than the Windows Media Player API. An option is available to revert to using WMP if required, but that option may be removed later if it is deemed unncessary.
  • Faster starting of audio/video/playlist cues when not using the internal mixer, and faster resetting of hotkey cues.
  • The second monitor (for videos and still images) may now be positioned above or below the primary screen, as well as to the left or right of the primary screen. Previously the 'above' and 'below' positions were not supported.
  • The linking of Audio File sub-cues previously required the 'relative start time' of each sub-cue to be 0.00 (or blank). SCS will now link Audio File sub-cues of a cue where all the 'relative start times' are identical (provide they have the same duration, etc).
  • An SFR sub-cue acting on "all playing cues" will now exclude the cue containing the SFR sub-cue itself, so if the parent cue also contains Audio File sub-cues then those Audio File sub-cues will continue playing.
  • SFR cues may now act on later cues, which is useful if you want the SFR cue to act on a hot key cue, or if you have the 'Run Mode' Production Property set to non-linear.
  • SFR cues may now act on the 'Previous cue' without having to select that cue number. This is useful for providing an SFR cue that fades or stops the previous cue where the actual previous cue may vary, such as due to a cue being disabled or because you are importing the SFR cue from another cue file.
  • An entry in an SFR cue may now act on 'All earlier cues EXCEPT cues listed above', or 'All playing cues EXCEPT cues listed above'. See the documentation on SFR cues for more details.
  • Fixed a few errors.

There is an issue with some MPEG files and DirectShow as implemented in SCS 10.7.0. You may find that some MPEG files do not display the image on the second monitor under Windows 7, and/or positioning within the file may be incorrect. This only seems to be an issue with certain MPEG formats, and AFAIK all other supported video formats are OK.

To fix the issue of the image not being displayed on the second monitor if you are using Windows 7, try this: If you encounter the video positioning problem (which only occurs on certain MPEG files if you set a start time after the beginning of the file), then unfortunately that seems to be an issue with that MPEG format and so we can't set the position correctly. In tests we have run, exactly the same positioning error occurs if we run the MPEG file through Windows Media Player or the K-Lite Media Player.

Hello Mike,
Just installed and run this. I'm picking up an error on opening and closing.
On startup I get:
Error 453
Can't find DLL entry point SCSV_Identify in scsmm.dll
SCS 10.7.0
ProcName = mmInit
CueFile =
Continue with the program? YES/NO

If I select YES the program loads.
On shut down I get:
Error 453
Can't find DLL entry point SCSV_CloseAll in scsmm.dll
SCS10.7.0
ProcName = CloseAllSCSMMVVideos
Cue File = (the loaded file)
Continue with the program? YES/NO

If I select YES the program exits.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2

Malcolm

Malcolm,

You probably previously had a pre-release version installed that included the dll scsmm.dll. Please delete that dll from the folder containing scs10.exe.

Mike,

Just to clarify, are you saying that it shouldn't be there at all? Slightly confusingly, it has a create date and time, 25 February 2008, 18:21:32, which is similar to other files in the program folder. Its modification date is 14 September 2007, 13:51:04, which is about the time you were issuing SCS 9.4.5.

Shouldn't be there at all - unless I provide you with a current version. The dll is a 'plugin' which provides yet another option for playing videos. The plugin was accidentally included in one of the release candidates I uploaded, but I noticed that very shortly after uploading it and so re-uploaded the RC without the plugin. You must have downloaded the RC in the short window of time in which the plugin was included! I only intend to provide the plugin if a user cannot run videos successfully using either the WMP or the DirectShow option.

It's because it's a 'plugin' that you can safely delete it. SCS checks for the existence of the plugin when it starts, and if the dll exists then it will use it. Since the plugin was developed for SCS 10 (even though work on it started ages ago), it had changes made to the function calls during the development of SCS 10, which is why in your case the dll was found to be incompatible.

Deleted scsmm.dll - SCS now loads and closes OK.

Thanks.
