SCS 10.6.1 Crash - Testing Loops (fix in 10.6.2)
Testing loops in an audio cue keeps producing the message:
Error Invalid playback position
SCS 10.6.1
ProcName = SetPlayingPos
BASS_ChannelSetPosition failed
Error: Invalid playback position
CueFile = [the name of my file]
Continue with the program?
I can't tell if my looping is clipping without testing it, but the testing keeps crashing.
Any work-arounds? Is it a known issue?

I hesitate to respond when you seem to be pretty clued up and to have high expectations of SCS but, whilst waiting for Mike to respond when Australia wakes up, you might like to look at this thread, which has similar error messsages, and check that your start, end, loop points and fades for that cue are all logical within the track length. Apologies if you have already checked that.

Re: SCS 10.6.1 Crash - Testing Loops
Thanks for your response! I unfortunately didn't search the forum for that error (that's totally my fault) - thanks for pointing out that post. It seems to be related to copy/paste of audio file cues, and a weird bug where SCS loses it's mind about how long the clip is. I'm writing an e-mail to support about it now, but it happens after working on a cue file for a while. At some point on an audio cue, SCS has a different understanding about the length of the clip than what is actual. Setting start and end points get saved with wrong information. The only recovery is quitting the program. Coming back in allows you to fix up the start and end points where they'll get saved.
Thanks for reminding me to search for all errors before posting - I know better than that!

Earlier this year Mike found particularly that the length of MP3 files got lost. I haven't looked up where we are on that one.mbatchelor wrote: At some point on an audio cue, SCS has a different understanding about the length of the clip than what is actual.

Re: SCS 10.6.1 Crash - Testing Loops
Marc,
Sorry for the delay in replying - could you tell me where you're up to with trying to resolve this? If necessary, please email me your cue file (the .scs file) and tell me which cue or sub-cue is throwing the error.
Does this only occur when you are in the Editor and making changes several times to the loop details? In other words, once you have finalized your loop points etc, and have run a test successfully, does the error 'go away'?

Thanks for your response. So far, have worked around the issue by killing the editor and main window. I it happens again, I'll try saving the cue file and sending it to you.Mike Daniell wrote: Does this only occur when you are in the Editor and making changes several times to the loop details? Re: SCS 10.6.1 Crash - Testing Loops
*More information*
The instability I am seeing in the editor with respect to crashes and SCS losing the start or length of a file has been (for me) isolated to .flac files. If I export my source audio as .wav (16-bit, 44100) or MP3, I don't experience the crashes following the same steps.
I sent Mike a duplication path, an SCS file, .flac files, and a potential resolution.

Re: SCS 10.6.1 Crash - Testing Loops
A late update to this topic: Marc found that the cause of the error was an out-of-date FLAC playback DLL included in the SCS distribution. When the latest DLL was installed the FLAC files played perfectly. SCS 10.6.2 now includes the newer version of the DLL.
