Problems with SCS 10.6.1 (fix in 10.6.2)

Post by Dan » Sat Sep 05, 2009 1:08 pm

Mike, I've had problems with SCS 10.6.1. Unfortunately, I am in Tech for a show right now, and haven't had the time to recreate the problem. I had been running with 10.6.0 without any problems at all (other than the occasional Windows "program error" window on program shutdown). But I received and installed the 10.6.1 version, and immediately began running into multiple "device disconnected - do you want the program to continue?" semi-crashes of the program. I had to reinstall 10.6.0, and everything is working fine again. I'm going to be out of town this weekend, so I won't be able to perform any thorough debugging, but I can provide some general info on the platform I'm using, and how it is being driven.

I'm using the SCS Pro version, using a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP, SP2, being driven by MIDI (ETC Program Change cues). The problem seems to occur between cues (or at least at the end of cues.) I have not noticed that the popup window appears during the actual execution of a sound cue, but it might. (I haven't been able to watch the screen to see exactly when it pops.) I also remember hitting the STOP ALL button prior to the first time I encountered the problem. I don't really think that has anything to do with the problem, but it might. Restarting the program did not seem to help eliminate the problems. I did not try rebooting after installing the new (10.6.1) version, so that may have some effect.

Anyway, I just wanted to put out a post in case any one else might encounter this problem.

You mention "device disconnected" - is this the "device(s) lost" message? What sound device are you using? I have found that the tiny plug on a firewire connection can easily work loose, which would cause a "device(s) lost" message if you are using a firewire device. However, there shouldn't be any difference in this regard between 10.6.0 and 10.6.1.

Yes, you're probably correct about the message (device(s) lost). I was reporting based on memory alone. The output device(s) I'm using are two Griffin iMic USB audio devices. They are connected to a USB hub, and the hub is connected to my laptop. There should be no connection differences as the laptop and the hub are in fixed locations. Using 10.6.0 (prior) there were no communcation problems, using 10.6.1 there were, and after reverting to 10.6.0 again the communcation firmed up.

When I get back, (and after Tech), I'll try some experimentation. Sorry I can't be more help at this time. I just wanted to float the report out there in case others may have run into this. If it's just me, I'll try to figure out what's causing it... ;-)

After programming all the cues required for our next show, I thought I would configure my Korg NanoKontrol to control various parts of SCS, ie slider one to control the master volume. I have also seen the error dialogue box with the following text:

Error -2147417848
The object invoked has disconnected from its clients
SCS 10.6.1
ProcName = cueStatusChecks
i=1,j=1,k=80
CueFile= C:\............xxxx.scs

Continue with the programme Yes / No

This dialogue box does re-appear if I continue with the programme and the same error occurs if I use my Korg NanoPad. Eventually SCS crashes.

Without the Midi controllers attached, SCS performs faultlessly. I Might try 10.6.0 to see if the problem appears their.

An update on my Korg Midi controller issue... I've uninstalled 10.6.1 and re-installed 10.6.0. Then connected the Korg NanoPad and started SCS using the same show which crashed 10.6.1

Even with rapid "pad pressing" on the nanopad, SCS performed without issue.

I'll keep using 10.6.0 and see how it performs in the next rehearsal,

Now onto the problem with some video cues not appearing on the second monitor (audio stills works), but that problem/fix is well documented elsewhere in the forum ....
