Newby soundcard hardware question.....

Post by chris.dever » Thu Jul 20, 2006 2:20 pm

Have just become interested in amateur theatre sound - hope my ignorance does not show too much!. First show had to do with a CD in a 'diskman' and life was pretty tough! Have downloaded the SCS demo and look just what I want. Have found a benefactor with a few (very few) $. I'm putting together a proposal to them to purchase a second hand PC (CPU= 1ghz, mem=256k) but would like some advice on soundcards. Currently have stereo speakers backstage, stereo speaker FOH. (But with the current setup only drive one set for any one show). Can anyone recommend a suitable soundcard? Must be readily available in Australasia. I could spend a couple of hundred kiwi dollars. It’s probable that in the first instance I’ll just unplug the diskman and plug in the card but I might want to do something a bit more sophisticated once I learn a bit more about what I’m doing!!

Chris - I was in your shoes a few months ago. Have a look back through this forum for the topic title 'Getting started' in October last year - it's on page 3 at the moment. I got loads of advice from other users which I found invaluable, including info on sound cards.

Hope you find it useful too. Good luck - once you start using SCS you won't look back.
