Triggering Level Sub Cues

Post by HowardB » Fri Apr 15, 2016 6:08 am

How are Level sub cues triggered - can I set them so they trigger on a press of the space bar like the main cue ?

Thanks

Set them as <Cue>, not <Sub-Cue> :)

If this is related to your other thread, you need to decide if you want the level change(s) to be manual or automatic.

If manual, Boswell explained in your other thread that this should be a normal Level Change cue, which can either be activated by the space bar or as a Hot Key (trigger).

If automatic, I explained there that a sub-cue, which is activated at the same time as its parent cue (manually by space bar or as a Hot Key), can have its start time delayed by a number of seconds set in the 'Rel. Start' box in the first line of the pale blue sub-cue panel, relative to the start of the parent cue or a previous sub-cue if there are a number. So, taking the example of your 9-minute track, you first enter this as a cue and it always appears as the first sub-cue under the main cue. Create a Level Change sub-cue with a relative start of 30secs after the cue starts, setting the new absolute or relative level you want. To avoid a snap change enter a time for the fade. For the fade back up create a second Level Change sub-cue with a relative start of 2 min 30 secs after the cue start or 2 mins after the start of the previous sub-cue, restoring the cue to the original absolute level. See 'Level Change Cues' and 'Relative Level Changes' in the Help file.

As I mentioned before, if you have a SCS Professional license you can set a Level Envelope.

If the level change times are unpredictable you will have to stick with manual changes.

I find the manual level change cue very useful for most things since timings never stay exactly the same in live theatre...an actor stumbling over a work or missing a line happens all too often. I have a large number of such cues in my current project which involves a singer standing in the corner singing to pre-recorded music which fades down for diaglogue then back up for more singing.

I'll only use a level change sub cue where that level change has to coincide with another cue--fading but not killing barking dogs as music starts is an example in my present show.

In a production I'm currently running I have set two Hot Keys for level down/level up during a particular number so the music can be dipped for dialogue and brought back up for singing multiple times without having to create separate level change cues for each level change in the song.
