Virtually Route Video out to other software

Post by Pochflyboy » Tue Jul 07, 2015 1:03 pm

I am wanting to use SCS for cueing video because of its familiarity but need to get the video into TouchDesigner for live mapping. Is there a way to route video through SPOUT or someother protocol or something so I can run video from SCS to TouchDesigner in one machine and then out to the projectors?

hi, i think you mentioned already the only way this might work.

http://visual-society.com/2014/spout-sy ... r-windows/
or
https://wyphon.wordpress.com/

but i doubt this is reliable, because of the early development of SPOUT and Wyphon.

Isn´t TouchDesigner midi controlable? Might be the easier way arround to trigger just the video. You may also check VPT7 for this https://hcgilje.wordpress.com/vpt/

if you are in need for just some corner pining (keystone), masking or edge blending, you might check Immersive Display Pro http://www.fly.elise-ng.net/immersivedisplaypro

I would like to see this funktions (at least Cornerpining & masking) within SCS, but i don´t think this will be easily integrable.

hope that helps a bit.

You could use Dante virtual soundcards ( from Audinate) to get audio from SCS PC , over network, to other PCs

how should this help with video mapping?

I was hoping to use the MTC out feature of SCS as well. SCS makes this very easy as you just add the video sub-cue and MTC sub-cue into one cue. Then they are directly linked and can easily send midi time code to the lighting console.

Additionally a tool like VPT7 wont work as we need some advanced features such as providing a live rendered feed to the projectors that is created in touchdesigner. We basically have a node network that allows us to use the projector for live color washes with projection framing just like they were MEGA regular lighting fixtures. Also we need quite a few outputs since we need more than 120,000 lumens to cover the area with effective brightness.

So essentially SCS 11 will serve the pre-rendered content and provide the MTC for those. Touchdesigner would take that video signal and overlay a live rendered color wash and framing content so that we can control the projectors live and then TD will also combine the two signals into one feed and distribute, mesh warp, and edge blend to the various projectors.

EASY! haha. The only element is getting video from SCS into TouchDesigner.

mhhh, i see. that is not easy. your setup sounds sophisticated. how do you reach this brightness of 120,000 lumens? do you layer the signals on several projectors? if yes do the outputs deliver the same signal? a videosplitter might help here. May you provide some detailed information about your setup?

Some ideas:

It may an option if you have 2 computers. 1 computer wich has SCS and the video out. and the second computer with Touchdesigner and a Framegrabber PCI card (DVI,VGA, HDMI,...). Such cards are not cheap, but that might actually work. The disadvantage is the need of 2 computers. It might run on one computer aswell, i am not shure.

Isn´t there an alternative software like Touchdesigner on mac osx? than there would be the possibility of running all from one computer (Mac Pro recommended) with qLab (for Audio, Video, Midi, MTC) via Syphon into that Software.

Or you can check Watchout

The basic way we get to the needed brightness is touchdesigner receives in the video, breaks it out into different parts for different projector areas and sends that signal to a stack of 2 or 3 projectors. So any given area of the arena will have 2 or 3 projectors pointing at it.

We did look at watchout but I like the advanced ability of touchdesigner to control the projectors as lighting fixtures and certainly the cost as well.

Two PC's may be the only way to go because I can't figure out how to make SCS send out via a Spout sender. I think it is something Mike would have to program in as an additional video library option. I was just hoping to run all of this off one machine so we could create a master and slave that we could switch to live should the first system go down.
