Stuff we do with SCS :)

Post by Cheetah » Wed Jul 09, 2014 8:01 am

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a little video with you guys. We've been acvid SCS users for a couple of years now, and we're using it to run a puppet show. It's a full theatrical play in three acts, running time is about 2 hours. We're using SCS to play out 4-channel surround sound on 10 channels that go into the live mix with the microphones (4 channels SFX, 4 channels ambience, 2 channels music) and video cues. We're using a mixture of sequential cues, and trigger cues for which we've built our own wireless trigger system, that allows puppeteers to start certain sound effects on their own (for example, gunshots) so everything stays in synch.

SCS is an incredible powerful, reliable and versatile system. And with all its interfaces, also very "hackable" :) There's nothing it can't do. This video is a little "behind the scenes" reel we made to share with our audience, but I thought maybe it's fun for everyone here to see what other people do with this software, too. Enjoy. And see if you can spot SCS in the video :)

(Yes, my PC bluescreened during the show. I'm pretty sure that was not SCS's fault, though, but a hardware problem :) )

And that is when you mute the channel immediately on the sound board.

Well, to my soundguy's credit, that's what he did the moment my machine rebooted. But this is such a rare occurence, he didn't immediately realize what was happening (and he was sitting in front of me in the booth, so he didn't have a line of sight to my monitor.). And maybe I should have mentioned that this is an amateur group and we only do this once a year :)

hi cheetah,

looks like a funny show to me : )

We're using a mixture of sequential cues, and trigger cues for which we've built our own wireless trigger system, that allows puppeteers to start certain sound effects on their own (for example, gunshots) so everything stays in synch.

That sounds interesting! May you provide some information how you guys had achieved that? If thats possible of course. Sometimes such things stay in secret, wich i would understand. but i am higly interested.
: D
