Starting playback from point other than top of cue

Post by lebem » Tue Dec 03, 2013 12:29 pm

So I'm a bit torn whether this falls under feature request or bug, but as it's behavior other than what I think one would reasonably expect I'll go with bug.

Observed in 11.2.5

When SCS is stopped, if you manually advance the play position of a cue using the slider in the transport controls (so as to start from a point later in the cue,) hitting go (or I believe even the play button on the transport control though I can't confirm my recollection of that right now) will jump the cue back to the start.

It can be worked around but starting and pausing the track before advancing the playback position, but this adds steps and requires muting the SCS channels on my console to keep everyone from hearing the brief blip of playback.

Sorry if I'm being unclear, I'm about 15 hours into my day and somewhat brain fried at the moment.

I just tested this on my cheap Lenovo laptop running Win 8.1 and SCS 11.2.5 and could not reproduce the error you described. It works as expected for me, whether hitting the spacebar or clicking on the play icon below the cue itself. I can play any cue started at any position and it will NOT rerack to the top of the cue before playing.
Does this do this behavior with any show files or only with this particular show you're currently building?

I can't reproduce this, either. Could you re-check? If you can reproduce the problem, please email me a diagnostic dump file taken immediately after the problem occurs. You can create this file by starting SCS and selecting 'Create Diagnostic Dump File' from the drop-down menu displayed when you click the Help button in the main window. The file will be saved in a folder named "SCS Dumps" under "Documents" or "My Documents".

Funny, I tried this first thing this evening and it worked as expected, but it has now gone back to the prior behavior. Once I'm at a convenient moment, I will create the dump file as requested. Tonight I'm in a different show file than the one I previously was reporting on (though coincidentally also a "Nutcracker.")

I just double-checked something. This problem exists ONLY with cues that are participating in "gapless playback." When I first tried earlier, I happened to try with something from Act II which are not being run gapless, but when I need to start from some point other than the top of a track in Act I (which is gapless) the problem manifests.

I've run a few more tests here, lebem, and what I've found is that the cue will always start at the beginning if it's gapless playlist cue. Ordinary audio file cues will start at the point you drag the progress marker to, whether they are gapless or not, and playlist cues will start at the point you drag the progress marker to if they are not gapless.

Does this match you observation? I'll look into fixing this bug.

I just sent the dump. I'm experiencing this behavior with non-playlist gapless cues.

Bug confirmed and fix now available. The error seemed to occur only with gapless audio file cues that have two or more output devices.

I've emailed you download info for the fix.
