Do you want to be able to adjust both tempo and pitch? I've just had a look at the SoundMan-Server (SM-S) documentation and SM-S has commands for adjusting either, which will make it fairly easy to implement for SM-S users. The BASS equivalents are more complicated as they involve adding another BASS module to SCS. So I will probably start with an SM-S implementation.
For our dance recitals, tempo control would be all we would need, but for some of the shows, that are really just gorified Karaoke nights (much like American Idol!), pitch control would be useful as well.
Why our clients can't bring in music that is recorded at the proper speed or pitch I will never know, but as we have alway accomodated them in the past, it's impossible to stop now. At least most of them do bring in music. We have some clients who "forget" that they need sound effects or music, and that's why we have an iTunes account and an extensive sound FX collection.

Would VST implementation solve this and effect related issues. That would leave the core software doing the superb job it is doing now and allow end-users to add additional funtionality as they see fit.

Consider this a +1 for a pitch/tempo control. My venue also does quite a lot of dance and I do somewhat frequently get requests to speed up or slow down a track. I fully understand Boswell's concern regarding bloat but it does seem from the forums that a decent number of users utilize SCS for dance.
To my mind, there is no need for independent control of pitch vs tempo, just a replication of the combined pitch/tempo control found on most pro grade CD players as that is what the choreographers are accustomed to having available. If they are they are so particular that they care how the requested speed change alters pitch I'd rather dump the file into my DAW software to get finer control anyway. In the same vein I don't think a specific "Tempo Change" cue type is necessary either. I can't recall a choreographer ever requesting me to vary a speed alteration within a track and I don't think that needs to be implemented within the playback software.

I'm planning to add tempo and pitch control to SCS 11.2.6. You will need SoundMan-Server (SM-S) with SCS to use tempo and pitch control, but note that registered SCS users can purchase an SM-S license through us for a very reasonable price. See
Purchasing an SM-S License for details. (You'll need to logon to see that page.)
SCS 11.2.6 will probably be released in January, although a pre-release should be available sometime in December. SCS 11.2.5 will be available as a Release Candidate soon, so I'm holding off the tempo and pitch enhancements until the following version.

Interesting, I am in the middle of a production of A Christmas Carol, and during the Fezziwig dance scene, they wanted the music to slow down during some dialog, and speed back to normal once the dialog is complete. I was able to accomplish this using Goldwave and creatiog three files, two at normal speed and one at half speed. Having the cue start at different points in the song. Not perfect but worked. Would have Ben much better is I could have used a cue to slow down the tempo of the current playing song, them another cue to resume normal playback.

Hi, I'd find tempo changes really useful too when using SCS for click tracks and the director wants something slightly changed during the run! I don't use SM-S though, at least not at the moment.
