[Mod in 11.2.5] Rationalise production folder.

Post by tekboy » Thu Oct 17, 2013 8:01 am

Hi All,
I would love there to be an easy way of re-saving a production folder so that only resources included in show file are copied. Qlab on Mac has this feature called 'bundle workspace' where a copy of the show and all files used are copied to a folder wherever you specify. This folder is fully portable, as all links are updated.

I have 4 different machines that I programme and run shows on: Show playback, rehearsal playback, editing machine and personal laptop. A large show can come in at 20Gb of data, much of it not used in the final version. Moving shows between machines and archiving shows would be quicker if redundant data could be periodically culled without the risk entailed in manually sorting and removing files.

Any thoughts? This may already be possible in SCS, but I have not found it!

Regards,
Giles Tanner.

You can do this by creating a new Production Folder. Although the 'Resync Production Folder' will add any new files to the current Production Folder, I think it's dangerous to delete any files no longer required, since a 'Production Folder' could be any folder on your machine.

Creating a new Production Folder sounds exactly like the 'bundle workspace' concept, as the new Production Folder will contain copies of all files used in your show (and no other files, assuming you create a new folder), as well as your cue file. The cue file itself is updated so all the links point to the current folder. The (new) Production Folder is therefore totally transportable to other machines. See Production Folder and Portability in the SCS Help for more info. Note that you can save your color schemes file in your Production Folder.

This process has been simplified in 11.2.5. The new function Collect Production Files replaces and simplifies the two functions Create Production Folder and Resync Production Folder.
