Cue names

Post by jmgordon » Wed May 03, 2006 11:13 am

Notwithstanding the behaviour set out and illustrated in the Help File, the main cue panels seem to be picking up the File Name (less .wav) as a label rather than the Description entered in the Production Editor. This occurs whether the description is auto-populated from the file name or pre-entered before the file is selected.

Malcolm,

Could you email me the .scs file, and screen shots of the appropriate editor screen and the main screen?

The issue raised here comes down to the difference between Cue Descriptions and Sub-Cue Descriptions. I will add some details about this to the Help file.

In SCS 9 every cue is made up of one or more sub-cues, and there is a 'Description' field for the cue and also an equivalent field for each sub-cue. For SFR cues, MIDI Send cue, Level Change cues and PlayList cues this is the 'Description' field in the sub-cue properties, but for Audio File cues this is the 'File Title' field. The reason for this is that for MP3 files (and later for some other file types as well) the title of the track or effect is obtained from within the file, and this 'File Title' is then used by SCS as the default 'Description' of the sub-cue. For file types other than MP3, SCS currently just uses the file name without the extension.

Having these two Description fields (cue and sub-cue) enables you to 'describe' each cue and also each sub-cue, which is particularly useful for cues with multiple sub-cues.

On the Run Screen SCS shows one line per cue in the cue list in the upper part of screen, but shows every sub-cue in the display panels in the lower part of the screen. Consequently, the cue description is shown in the cue list, but the sub-cue description (or file title for audio file cues) is shown in the display panel.

SCS keeps a note of which descriptions are set to their default values, and when editing will propagate the description of the first sub-cue up to the cue if possible.

Even though the File Title for an audio file is derived from either the content of the file or from the file name, since this 'File Title' is just a description field you can change what has been displayed, so you can therefore set your own descriptions for all sub-cue types.
