SCS with ZERO 88 Sirius 24

Post by adbss » Wed Apr 05, 2006 2:27 am

Hi
Does anyone know if it's possible to activate the GO button on a sirius lighting desk from the midi output in SCS

I have tried a few things but had no luck as of yet.

I know that the desk will take a signal for this purpose but don'pt know how SCS would tell it.

Hope someone can help me.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

We use a Sirius 24, and have so far been unable to find a way to get SCS to activate the GO button. We've tried many things, but nothing seems to work. I have activated various other external equipment using SCS (eg Mixing Desk Snapshot recall) with no problem, so the problem seems to lie with the Zero 88 desk.

Cheers,
Jack

Hi,

The problem you are having is because the zero 88 sirius 24 (and 48's) don't have a MIDI interface at all.

Instead there is a socket on the back that you can wire up a remote switch to, or if you have the zero 88 remote masters kit you can wire up some remote faders - but this won't help you with connecting it to the computer. I suspect it is this socket (8-pin DIN) that you are trying to send MIDI signals to?

If you haven't got the manual you might like to have a look at the zero 88 website where you can download it in pdf format

http://support.zero88.com/main/en/product/59

They also have a support forum on there which you may find useful for general issues with the desk.

I have just aquired and fixed a zero 88 XLS desk (which is similar in spec to the sirius 24/48 - same family) for our local am-dram group. This model does have the MIDI interface. I've ordered up a soundcard with MIDI sockets so that I can link it to the computer. If you download the XLS manual from the zero 88 website you will see there are several chapters on MIDI which are missing from the sirius 24/48 manuals.

Sorry it's not the answer you were hoping for,

Gordon

PS what you might be able to do is build a device that closes a relay wired to the remote socket on the desk when a given MIDI signal is sent by the computer - I don't know how techie you are though!
