'Offline' programming

Post by Gary Matheson » Fri Jan 06, 2012 12:20 am

It is often desirable to work on programming just on the laptop, without hooking up to an external sound card (or sound system). However, this only allows access to your internal stereo sound card. If you want to program multiple outputs with pan or level changes between outputs you can't pre-programme this. Is there any way you could get SCS to ignore what is or isn't connected and allow you to choose how many outputs you want to programme? Then once connected up to your multiple output sound card at a later stage all you would have to do is change the sound card and output details. All of your cues would already be programmed to output to the relevent channels/outputs.

So, in Device Mapper, you'd like to assign outputs that don't actually exist on the pc you're using to program a show?
Seems like a good idea to me. But it's up to Mike, of course.

Perhaps a check box for a particular device map that would effectively allow a user to turn off the error checking for existing outputs would work. I don't know how many places this error checking exists nor what the impact would be. I suspect the log will fill up with "output # not found"

But if it doesn't cause any problems, I would welcome such a change - for both the BASS audio driver as well as the SoundMan-Server engine. I personally use the SM-S engine with a MOTU 2408 and an expansion 2408 at the venue but program at home with a M-Audio FW-410 interface.

Unless I've misunderstood your requirements,
this is already available and I do it all the time.
I have 4 stereo devices (FOH,Bstage,Fback,Pit) declared under production properties but they are all assigned to the same onboard laptop 2 channel sound card.
I can alter level/pan etc individually for each device.
Then on the theatre computer the device mapper assigns those 4 devices to 4 separate stereo channels of my external sound card on the theatre computer..
I have no trouble editing at home on my laptop then saving onto USB stick to load onto theatre computer.
HTH

That's correct. The purpose of a Device Map is to enable you to have separate mappings of your devices for different environments. By mapping all your SCS devices to the available physical devices means you can at least listen to all your cues, even if they are being played through the 'wrong' speakers when you don't have the complete system available.

Hi all

Its almost a year since using SCS in anger.

I now have my pc with hdmi out as well as vga.

My question is this.

I have designed a simple playout list using as the pc monitor my TV down the hdmi and a projector as the projector.

Now of course I actually need to have the playlist on a sensible sized screen for the venue along with the projector.

When I plug up the devices as required it is now a small screen straight into the vgo out of the pc and the projector through a usb to vga converter.
The problem is the scs now says the Sharp TV via hdmi is not there and I cant work out how to remap, if that is possible!
I weill email myself a dumpfile as leaving for working away for a few days and need to sort this on my return! Hopefully I will then be able to try sorting on a laptop!

Nick
