I got an iPad recently, and am contemplating using the app TouchOSC to run SCS while working in various places around the theater. I'm also contemplating purchasing and using the device The Missing Link to translate from OSC to MIDI. So I have two questions:
1) Is there a way that SCS could be coded to accept OSC messages?
2) in the mean time, is there any body that could help me code a layout that would have a basic set of commands (Go, Stop, Pause) as well as a Master Volume fader, and a set of hot keys that can be assigned to fire hot cues? I'm getting into a midi course next semester, but until then, I'm kind of at a loss.
Thanks.
OSC Interface
Re: OSC Interface
OSC via The Missing LInk is a very inadequate interface at the moment to emulate MIDI Show Control (MSC) commands because it focuses mainly on musical MIDI conversions rather than Show Control ones. You might want to contact The Missing Link developers and make them more aware of MSC and the equivalent commands in OSC, although they are somewhat different and not directly comparable. Also, many of the people who are involved with OSC are also very involved with the most active current group defining open control standards, the Open Control Alliance (OCA). You can request to become involved with them, including just being an observer like I am right now, by emailing Claudia Schulze claudia.schulze@lietz-consulting.de and she will hopefully give you observer status. The OCA is developing a standard which at the moment is very similar to the stillborn AES24 standard which was never adopted by anyone because it was so complex and it does need to be drastically simplified in my opinion. Good luck with this and let us know how things go....

Re: OSC Interface
Regret that I haven't come across OSC before. Having done some brief searching on OSC (Open Sound Control) I'm not sure where things are at regarding a standard specification. I'll need to do more research.
Re: OSC Interface
We have a Jazzmutant Lemur which is multitouch and outputs OSC:
http://jazzmutant.com/
Anyone who would like this unit to develop with or to use with an OSC system is welcome to use it.
Please contact me directly:
charlier@richmondsounddesign.com
It is a great unit and we started developing with it before they decided to cease operations and it is what LCS used for their Matrix3 control before Meyer bought them.
Any other questions, please contact me directly.

Re: OSC Interface
After doing some research, I've come to realize that OSC and The Missing Link may not be the best solution for what I'm looking to do.
What I'm looking for is a way to control SCS through an iPad, but I'm not entirely comfortable using a remote access app to connect to my computer. Is there a possibility of some sort of iPad app or a way in which the iPad could be used to run SCS wirelessly? Does anybody have any methods or way that I could go about this?

Hi
Everything you need can be found on the Hexler.net website. Full instructions and on-line manual/set-up. The editor software is Free. The TouchOsc app is available on Itunes for a small fee. The other software to convert OSC to Midi is also free.
Hope this helps

Re: OSC Interface
I've got the editor. I'm holding off on purchasing the app until I'm certain that it will work. I'm currently working with a Compaq PC running Windows 7. I found a program called Pure Data Extended that will actually run in Windows. Is this a program that you guys would recommend or is there something else? Also, are there any tutorials for setting this stuff up and running.sjwicks wrote:Hi
