Question about number of devices per cue

Post by kd5snu » Thu Oct 22, 2009 3:39 am

Ok, for my university, we're thinkning about buying a Pro license.

our audio card/system is the 8 in/8 out EchoAudio Layla3G.

my main question is this: if i were making a surround sound cue for a scene, would i be able to output to all 8 channels at once (by calling them stereo pairs, so that i have 4 'devices')? or would i have to make a pair of subcues, one for the first 4, the other for the second?

Thanks,
Cris

Each "device" slot in the cue property panel can be a mono, stereo, or multi-channel device. If you actually have a 6- or 8- channel audio file and play it through one of the "multi" devices it should come out on all channels using only the one device slot for that cue. Or playing through four stereo pairs will work as well. I think there are some limitations on panning with stereo pairs other than the "default" L/R stereo pair though -- depends on whether you are using ASIO or WDM drivers, and if you are using software or hardware mixing.
