Minor Problem 10.6.1 (Pro) (fix in 10.6.2)

Post by WAVP » Thu Oct 15, 2009 6:13 am

When setting up a new audio interface, if doing the logical thing (working left to right on screen) ie. entering a name before selecting the interface, an error is generated. If the illogical method is used (working right to left on screen) ie. entering the name last, the problem does not occur. I guess the program is looking for the interface before it is defined on exit from the name field rather than on completion of the whole line. Hope that makes sense.

Just tried it and I don't get an error, give Mike a bit more detail, what screen you are on, what have you got selected for audio driver settings etc

I'm getting the same problem on 2 entirely different PC's (1 XP and 1 vista). The point is that no drivers are selected at the point I enter the "device name used in cues". The error is "Error Already initialised/paused/loaded/whatever SCS 10.6.1. ProcName=initDevice Can't initialise device". Which is entirely logical because at that stage no device has been selected only a name has been entered. initDevice seems to be called at wrong place on entering the name as opposed to completion of Name, Physical device and Outputs. I am working on the "Production properties" form "Sound devices" tab. To recreate this problem try. Open SCS 10.6.1, create new production, totally clear any drivers from sound devices tab. That will give you a blank form all columns. Type a name in the device name column and tab or move focus from the column and the error is generated. This will also happen on the second line, third line etc.

I am getting this as well. Clicking through the error messages lets me continue working.

I've seen this error message, too.

In my case, I was re-installing SCS and the audio hardware on a new-to-me used computer system (an upgrade) for the "production" machine that resides at the theatre. The old SCS version was V9.mumble and I installed the latest V10.6.1.

My audio HW is M-Audio Delta-44. If I selected the "Delta-44 1/2" and "Delta-44 3/4" device options, I saw the above listed message. If I chose another option, further down the list (and I appologize that I don't remember the exact text), that purported to provide the same feature (stereo on outputs 1/2 and on outputs 3/4), I saw no error message.

Several variables had changed in this scenario: PC HW upgrade, SCS version, Delta-44 device driver version, so I just shrugged and let it pass.

In version 10.6.2 there will be a change to the way in which the Editor handles device changes in the Production Properties. This Editor change is designed to address the issue of device assignment changes being applied before all the necessary details have been entered or changed.

Also, the 'Speakers/Outputs' drop-down list will only be populated with available speakers/outputs. For example, if a device is a stereo pair then the speakers/outputs included in the drop-down list (for that device) will only include "Left and Right (Stereo)", "Left (Mono)" and "Right (Mono)".

A release candidate of 10.6.2 should be available some time next week.

Just the job Mike. I wish other software creators were as responsive. :D

Thanks Mike --this has been an ongoing source of confusion to newcomers I teach the system to ... removing the "clutter" will definitely help!
