sneding a signle
sneding a signle
What I am planning on doing is, having the L&R, 4 surround’s and L&R rear speakers for the system I am purchasing. I have an interface that gives me 8 outputs form USB, I am planning on buying the professional version of scs. I was wondering can I do 8 outputs with professional or do I need professional plus?

Re: sneding a signle
It depends on the maximum number of devices you want to use in a cue, and whether or not you can treat the 8 outputs as 4 stereo pairs. With SCS Professional you can have up to 8 devices overall with up to 4 devices per cue. These 4 devices may be stereo pairs, so this can give you access to all 8 outputs without having to go to Professional Plus.
Re: sneding a signle
Well the device that I will be using is the “ESI gigaport HD” witch has 8 RCA/Phono out puts, can I group two of the outputs to stereo? Or do the outputs have to be stereo?

Re: sneding a signle
Perhaps someone else with an ESI gigaport could advise - I don't have one myself.
Re: sneding a signle
Ah so you cant take two mono channels and combine them into a stereo channel vier the softwear?
Well from your preveus coment im gessing no
so can anyone with the gigaport interface advise me on this?
Or can anyone recomend a 4 or 8 stereo channel interface (outputs not inputs) for under £100? or if not £150, I might be able to get away with, I hope

Re: sneding a signle
I have found a device that I think will work. Now you know my setup so will this device work for what I want. It is the ESI MAYA44 (http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/ ... ace--47504) this has 2 stereo input and 2 stereo outputs, for what I need I would need to get two of them, witch is ok because it comes to about what I was willing to pay for anyway. So I will have two of these devices in my PC and I will need to be using all 4 stereo outputs (from both devices) at the same time, can I do this on SCS? Or can you only run audio through one device at a time?
Re: sneding a signle
I have just tried a Gigaport AG (which has been superseded by the HD), the only difference with the HD that I can see is that the HD is USB2.
The AG running under SCS 10.6.1 will send a stereo output to ch1&2 and mono to ch 3,4,5.
I don't see any reason why the HD version should not behave the same.
I would suggest that you download the demo version of SCS and have a play, it will help you to understand the output configurations available in SCS

Re: sneding a signle
To expand a bit on the above, with the Prof version of SCS you can have 8 'devices' defined in the software, each device can be any one of the Gigaport outputs to give mono or outputs 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8 to give stereo pairs, or any combination you like.
BUT each individual audio file can only be sent to a max of any 4 devices. If you have the Prof Plus version of SCS then you can send each audio file to all 8 devices
You can send a stereo file to a mono device and it down mixes it to mono.
All my test were done with Wav files

Re: sneding a signle
Ah ok, though a stereo output can be one device and you can pan this device. you use a splitter to sned that one stereo chanle to two mono chanles on the board and route acordingly. this way i can send to 8 speakers by useing 4 devices (outputs) am I right? I want to use stereo becaus if I used the 8 mono out puts on the Gigaport then the cue will be verylong and it will get very messy very quickly.

Lol ok I will. ah, one problem my pc is broken and im useing school pcs atm.
Re: sneding a signle
OK! I think iv got it now! Sorry I have been wording this very badly, didnt quite know how to ask this.
So the softwear will pickup two mono channels as a stereo pair? and present the two mono channels (stereo pair) in the cue sheet as one channel witch can be paned?

Re: sneding a signle
Alex, the software will not pick up two separate mono audio files and put them together as a stereo pair. If you actually have two different mono audio files and you want to play one on L and the other on R, then you will have to specify the L and R audio devices in the audio cue definition. But in SCS you can play these two audio file cues simultaneously, and therefore get the effect of them performing as a stereo pair.
Different situation -- if you have a single mono audio file and want to play it over a stereo pair, then you should be able to assign it to a L/R (stereo) device in SCS and it will replicate the audio on both channels. Just want to make sure you are clear on that.
Fyi, by the time the channels get out of your gigaport they are all essentially "mono" channels -- however they can participate in a stereo pair or multi-channel group of channels. But I believe the device will let you address each separately as a mono channel. And most devices will let you overlay different channel arrangements and routings from different source files. Kind of hard to explain this in a text blurb ... I wish there were good diagram online that shows the flexibility of audio mixing software and hardware.
