Pause at End of Video

Post by navrac » Mon Jan 12, 2009 6:30 am

I have a production which requires synchronizing the video to the actors ( nightmare).

In this example the actors are typing messages to each other on keyboards and what they are typing appears on the screen in a 'chatroom' window above the stage.

The only way I can see to do this is to run it as a single video clip and press the pause then play then pause then play etc using the mouse on the individual cue control to pace the messages as with scs as soon as a clip is over the screen goes to black So I cant do it as individual clips. Sadly the actors are unable to synchronize their acting to a video So I have to take this pause /play approach.

Since you cant remap these individual controls it gets a bit tricky. But if you had a facility to stop and hold on the last frame of a video cue I could just use the normal <Go> method instead or alternatively a 'pause current video' cue would work for me.

While I'm at the wishlist section - how about a CDG file input - so when its one of those awfull sing along numbers I can just play a video and use the cdg to provide the onscreen words instead of having to type it all in to a video!

Oh and any chance of doing this in the next 30 days!

You can do that now using the SFR cue with the 'Pause immediately and hibernate' action. To resume the video you can set up another SFR cue with the 'Resume hibernating cue' action. Cue hibernation was originally developed for playlists, but you can also use hibernate audio and video cues. When you 'pause and hibernate' your video, the video will freeze at the current frame (ie the video image remains visible), but the cue will disappear from the cue panels because it is regarded as hibernating. When you activate the 'Resume hibernating cue' SFR cue, the video will be resumed and the video cue will again appear in the cue panels.

Don't know anything about CDG files, although from a web search I presume they are karaoke files. Hmmm. Maybe.

Thanks for the sfr tip - I didn't realise it worked with video - that should do me.

And yes CDG= Karaoke, terrible I know, nobody wants to be associated with it - including me really - but it is an easy way to get the words on screen - good for helping the actors learn their songs too. I thought it was easy to learn a song till they challenged me to 'put my money where my mouth is' and try to sing 'windmills of your mind' to a backing track without assistance.
Needless to say I lost the bet.
