Video Fade Cue

Post by David Buss » Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:45 pm

Probably a lot easier to write on here than to code, but a video fade to black then stop would be very handy.
Thanks

That's a feature that I would like to include but unfortunately the Windows Media Player API (which is used for video playback in SCS) does not provide suitable properties or methods to implement video fades, only audio fades. I plan to replace WMP as the video engine when I can find a stable and suitable replacement.

I'm not a programmer so I don't know the ins and outs of pluging in different video and audio engines, but there's open source software called VLC (again, I don't know how that would work with your commercial sales model,) that I believe uses its own and very flexible engine that supports a wide variety of video formats and large number of real time effects on playback. While it uses the directX and OpenGL rendering engines, it seems to have a great deal more options and controls than WMP and glancing around their wiki, there does appear to be an API for external access to their software (though how developed it is I don't know.) Either way it may be worth looking into and/or getting in touch with their developers.

Hi Mike, I agree having video fade between cues would be very useful. Example: a show I am working on has various video shots projected on the stage with a live a band and choir singing for one song. In this situation video fade would be really helpful. Can you not use the video renderer in directx ?

This should also give you other fun stuff to do as well.

I was wondering if there was any development or update on this feature request. video fade and cross fade options would be extremely handy. i understand that it might not be possible but it would be awsome. SCS rocks.
