Global Mute (in 10.1.0)
Hello all,
It has been brought to my attention that SCS 10 has a global volume control and metering, but, but does anyone else want a global mute button?
Cheers
Neil

Re: Global Mute
Neil advised me that his request is related to rehearsals - "There have been a couple of times that I have just wanted to mute the system while I get to the correct place for the dancers to re-commence."
The Master Volume control in SCS 10 does have some associated keyboard controls for master volume up, down and reset. I suggest the solution would be to drag the Master Volume down to minimum to mute the output, and when ready to un-mute just press the keyboard key assigned to 'reset master volume'. I was considering adding a 'mute' keyboard key, but that could be a bit dangerous. You don't want to accidentally hit that key during production. So having to drag the fader to minimum is a more deliberate operation and not prone to accidental setting.

Re: Global Mute
Then of course there's the Pause All feature coming in SCS10.

Re: Global Mute
I had a situation today where such a feature would be great.
- Playback backing for Show
- Director wants to make a note "in time" from the production desk with out stopping the track but not talking over the music.
- "Global Mute" Key command would allow the director to make his/her comment and not need to waste time re - cueing the track.
- Would be very handy if using it for shows w- a quick turn around, reducing the time spent re - cueing.
If it was a "Shift + " key command rather than a single stroke that would be a safe way of incorporating it in to the software.

Re: Global Mute
Good point, Greg. I'll look into providing the mute feature and providing a "Shift + " key as the default.Greg Kershaw wrote:If it was a "Shift + " key command rather than a single stroke that would be a safe way of incorporating it in to the software.

Re: Global Mute
Maybe "Shift - " or "Shift m " would be more in keeping with the thought process.

Re: Global Mute
Would it be better to be able to set the "mute" volume level in the editor? I personally can't see using a full mute on this, but I can see using an "attenuate" button to drop the volume 20db to duck under a director's comment, then back to full volume. If you mute completely you could lose track of where you are.
Allowing the user to set the "mute level" or "attenuate" level in the editor (just after where you set the default level) would allow you to define either a full mute or just a duck.
Thanks. John

Re: Global Mute
I can see the use of both, but attenuate sounds great aswell.

Re: Global Mute
I'll start with just the mute as I've now coded that! Here is an extract from the draft Help file for SCS 10:
"Master Volume Mute toggles the Master Volume between silence and the current level. So the first time you press the mute key the output will be silenced, but the second time you press the mute key the volume will revert to the level it was at when you muted the output. The 'mute state' is cancelled if you change the master volume level in any way. So if you press the mute key, then drag the Master Volume slider even just a little, then the 'mute state' is cancelled and the next time you press the mute key the output will again be muted, not reset."
