i'm interested to know if anyone has come up with an elegant solution to the following setup:
i've got a show coming up that requires 8 channels of playback, but as i'm a paranoid type who has to ensure faultless operation every night for 3 months, i'm not keen on entrusting the playback solely to a PC. I love SCS, and am going to design the entire show on it, but i need some sort of backup that will run in sync in case the PC goes south. The whole gig is run off a pair of generators, so there is always the opportunity for the power to go down at the obvious critical point in the show.
So, for backup purposes, i'm looking at either an 8 channel ADAT or a 24 channel HDD.
i would, however, love to be able to get the ADAT etc to effectively mirror the playback from SCS, so effectively the ADAT machine is chasing some sort of timecode generated by the PC. this would enable me to switch to the adat playback seamlessy in case of a pc failure.
i understand that SCS can generate Midi messages, but i'm limited in my understanding of this. Are the MIDI commands that SCS generates able to control an external playback device like an ADAT? if not, is there any way that this could be enabled, perhaps slaving both SCS and the ADAT to a hardware midi timecode generator?
i need to keep this as simple as possible, so if anyone has come up with such a solution please let me know
Cheers
Daniel
