Video file playback

Post by jdeull » Wed Oct 19, 2005 11:17 pm

Is or will there be a simple way of using scs to cue video file playback?

Ahhhh... taking it to the next level... like the new iPod, "SCS + Video" 8)

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the software can playback video at this time.

Honestly, that would add a whole new dimension to the program, possibly overcomplicating the simplistic beauty of this software. Video preview windows... video output selection... transition effects... higher system requirements, etc.

I wouldn't mind seeing such a program, but I honestly would like to see it as a seperate option.

This request does come up occasionally and is one of the features I will be considering post SCS 9.

scarlco is right about the potential complexity, but my current thinking is to keep the functionality down to basically:
  • A new cue type for video
  • Playing a video file via a separate display (monitor) which in production could be a video projector
  • Set start and end points
  • Fade from and to black
That's my thinking anyway. No code has yet been written, and there may be unforeseen issues to be tackled, so it's a while off.

Mike: This would be absolutely brilliant and I believe it would would fill a real need for many people. I agree simple is best, just like SCS.

I'm doing this for an upcoming production, and the solution I've come accross is to run Vidvox's GRID2 on my Mac laptop and fire it from SCS via MIDI, it's not as elegant as native video would be, but works and is not too expensive (if you have another machine and the midi hardware around)!
