I would like to run a midi relay box by the stage, it is the only item running MIDI on my system and what I want to know is:
1. what type of cable for midi? coax? cat5? etc
2. what (realistically) is the longest run I can use for MIDI
Can anyone help with these?
Many thanks
Ian

This link gives a maximum specified length of 50 feet and describes the cable to be used. Their solution for converting to XLR for longer lengths is pretty expensive.
MIDI Solutions (mentioned in your other post) offer a power adaptor for longer lengths and
this link for a discussion on the issues.
I hope this helps.

Excellent link, that!
Many thanks.
I already have a ground isolated XLR patch to the required location so I may give that method a try.

Ian,
I have used a multicore for midi (I keep 2 xlr-5 pin din jumpers especially for this) over a distance in excess of 30meters with no problems.
