The object invoked has disconnected from it's client

Post by Adelphi » Tue Aug 22, 2006 5:55 am

Hi Mike,

My Friend 'Nino' is at a technical rehersal right now - and is having some trouble with getting SCS 9.2.4 to run !

It ran fine for him yesterday - but today when he tries to run SCS he gets ...

Automation Error. The object invoked has disconnected from it's client.

He's loaded a version 8, which runs ok - although he doesn't have the key for that version to hand.

Any ideas ?

He's not able to get to the internet right now - he got hold of me by phone.

Thanks

Andy

Regarding the 'automation error', is it predictable when this will occur? If so, what leads up to this error?

Hi Mike,

I think it's as soon as he runs SCS. I'm not there, I'm at home - so I'm not certain. He has managed to get up and running again by doing a system restore to a couple of days ago - so something must have changed since then that's caused the problem.

I think he's going to post more details on here when he gets back from the rehersal.

Hi Mike

As Adelphi said, I did a system restore and got SCS 9.2.4 up and running again. I don't know what caused the error - it had performed flawlessly during an 8-hour rehearsal the previous day...

I tried reinstalling 9.2.4, 8.4.4, creating a new user and installing there - all to no avail. Every time I tried to load SCS I got the same automation error.

During the week of the performance I had a couple of occurences of the previously documented 'wiping' of the cue file, although the backup was there. This seemed to occur after making adjustments to levels and pans and clicking on the 'Save Settings Q..." button. It seemed to accept a number of changes then, for no reason I could identify, suddenly fail to load cues further down the list. After copying the backup back into the show directory it would be happy again! If I made no changes at all during a performance, SCS performed flawlessly.

What caused the problem, I don't know. Whether it will happen again, I don't know. Whether I could re-create the error, I don't know. Not very helpful to you, I know, but I did discover that the system restore is sometimes useful...

Nino, just clarifying events regarding the automation error: are you saying that after the system restore 9.2.4 worked OK, but prior to the system restore the automation error occurred with both 9.2.4 and 8.4.4? If so then it does seem to be related to something in the environment as 8.4.4 is very stable.

Thanks for the tip about the wiping of the cue file possibly being caused by the "Save Settings Q..." button. I'll look into this.

Hi Mike

Yes, I am sure that the cause was Windows related rather than anything to do with SCS. I think something in the Windows config must have screwed itself up - no instance of SCS would load. As soon as the splash screen showed it would issue the error message and exit.

Since the restore I have not had any problems (except the occasional cue file wipe!). Also 9.2.5 has run perfectly happily. I love the new random playlist feature.
