[Resolved] Strange DMX problem

Post by RedBeard » Wed Dec 12, 2018 2:37 pm

I've tried to search for anyone else having this issue, but nothing came up. We have done a couple shows and never had this problem until recently. We ran a show one night and everything worked fine, but the next afternoon when I ran through the cues none of the lighting/dmx cues were working. They would run but nothing happened. I spent hours looking over all the settings, verifying DMX addressing, restarting equipment. I removed and re-installed SCS. Removed and reinstalled the driver for the USB to DMX adapter. I tested the USB to DMX adapter with Freestyler and everything turned on correctly. What I found is that SCS (11.7.1.3) was sending the DMX data, but on some seemingly random addresses that I had never used before. I was able to recreate the problem again at home tonight.

I have a ADJ dimmer pack set for a starting channel of 10. When I send the cue, or do a live DMX test it sends the command on DMX channel 19+
The fixture is added to SCS with a starting channel of 10, the cue is configured with a channel of 10 and 11. If I reconfigure my DMX device to the channel shown in the SCS DMX Display window everything works.

I've attached an image of a cue properties page and the DMX display window when the live DMX test is active.

So the question.. Am I configuring something completely wrong here?

In DMX Items for your cues, the DMX channels you specify for a fixture should be relative DMX channels, ie the channel numbers within the fixture. For example, since you have specified the ADJDIM fixture starting channel as 10 then your DMX Items should be:
ADJDIM:1@100
ADJDIM:2@100
ADJDIM:3@0
ADJDIM:4@0

Well now I feel dumb. I'm sure that's mentioned in the manual and I missed it when going over all this.
