UDJ6 crashing?

Post by Timsbury Theatre » Sat Dec 08, 2018 2:20 am

Hi
I've been using SCS very successfully for a few years now on a Windows 7 laptop and a UDJ6 interface to give 4 channels (stereo front of house and 2 stage speakers for FX and foldback).
The Win 7 laptop died and my standby machine is a Win XP laptop which works OK using its headphone output as a 2-channel device but seems to randomly crash the UDJ box when that is connected. Sometimes the level meters indicate that sound is being produced by the software, but no analogue sound comes out of the UDJ; sometimes the SCS freezes and cues don't play. A reboot usually solves it but that doesn't help in the middle of a busy show!

I have just got hold of a Windows 10 laptop (fairly basic HP), loaded the software and the same kind of things are happening.

I am using a fairly old version of SCS (11.3.5.2 with standard licence) and the UDJ driver is v1_25.

Any ideas?

Since the UDJ6 v1_25 driver doesn't support Windows 10, according to the ESI website, it seems to me a good idea would be to update to the current v1_4 before checking for other problems.

The ESI Knowledge Base has a FAQ covering installation under Windows 10. You will need to make sure that SCS is configured for using ASIO drivers, or otherwise, and that all the required channels are active in the Windows Control Panel (but I expect you did that under WS7 anyway).
