Midi control volume fade of single tracks

Post by Gubbio67 » Thu Aug 03, 2023 8:24 pm

Hi Mike. Is it possible to implement a midi control for the volume of single cues? Sometimes I have to send multi tracks together but have to manually control them. In a midi/osc way it would be wonderful!

Thank you

When you refer to a single cue, do you mean the currently-playing cue, or a particular cue in the cue stack that's not currently playing?

Also, are you wanting to adjust all tracks of that cue by the same dB level?

I'm referring to the playing ones. If more than a cue track is playing it should be possible to adjust every volume fade by different midi/osc commands.

You can manually adjust the levels of individual outputs using the Faders Window, which obviously affects a currently playing cue (or cues). It would also affect the output levels of subsequent cues. If you were to use MIDI or OSC, are you referring to a Control Send cue? If so, that would imply you know what levels you want to assign. Or would the MIDI/OSC be sent from an external controller? Does the Faders Window provide what you want?

Thank you Mike! No the faders window is not the solution. We use 2 outputs and the cue tracks go in both. The problem is that we have different sounds going together and some times a sound is too loud for the volume of the actors so we have to manually lower that volume fade (only of that track). The actors doesn't have microphones so it's impossible to determine the real volume of their voice during rehearsal (it depends from the day, the interpretation, etc). So the solution for the moment is to keep the mouse on the volume fader of the tracks that can create problem and lower them accordingly.
The main level is correct for all the other cue, so lower the main volume fader is not the solution.

Instead of control manually with the mouse we like to have a midi controller that works like the main fader control for single cue fader volume

Not yet. What MIDI controller are you wanting to use? Does it have motorized faders? If so then that requires two-way communication but is far superior to one-way communication. If the MIDI controller only sends MIDI then on receiving MIDI from the controller SCS needs to determine whether or not to action that immediately or wait until the MIDI value roughly corresponds to the current SCS fader value.
