Default/Fallback devices and templates

Post by BritGeek » Wed Jan 13, 2016 10:41 am

Hi Mike,

I've read your document where you outlined your proposed new default/fallback device feature, and templates (it was in a "Merry Christmas" post which I can't find any more but I had downloaded the PDF file).

I'm looking forward to all these new features, mostly the default device and fallback device feature. The template feature is also nice to have, though many of us probably already implement that manually in a way - by loading a previous cue file and deleting all the cues instead of starting a new cue file from scratch.

Regarding the fallback device, I wanted to ask if there will be a way to quickly disable that feature. My thinking is that I'll be using the fallback feature for editing at home, but once I'm finished with that and we're in final rehearsals and performances at the theatre I never want the fallback device to be selected. If there's something wrong with the primary device (operator forgot to switch it on, or whatever) I don't want to fallback to the laptop speakers, for example - the operator needs to get the error message saying the default device could not be initialized.

On a related topic, I thought you might like to know that the recently-added ability to import device maps has been a godsend for me! I used to have to manually re-enter all the device settings for a show on my backup PC, even though it has the exact same set of devices as my primary PC. Now I can just import the device map and audio/video devices from the same cue file instead of having to re-enter them.

Thanks,
Tim.
