New and Changed Features in SCS 11
The development environment that was used for SCS 10 is no longer supported so SCS has now been ported to a new, better development environment that is actively supported. Due to the significance of this port, the SCS major version number has been increased from 10 to 11, so the new version is SCS 11. Several other changes have been made, including:
- Improvements to the user interface
- Video/image cues now accept more than one video/image, so each video/image cue can be treated as a 'slide show' or 'story board'.
- Video/image cues may now be directed to any one of up to 4 external screens or video projectors.
- Audio file cues may now use markers or cue points saved in WAV files (some limitations depending on your SCS license level).
- Zooming and scrolling on the audio file graph in the Editor has been improved.
- When adding an audio file cue you may now select multiple audio files and SCS will create an audio file cue for each selected audio file.
- New SCS 11 cue types have been created for the SCS 10 pseudo cue types of 'set position' and 'go to cue'.
- The SCS 10.8/10.9 Device Map has now been integrated into the Production Properties, and includes Audio Output Devices, Control Send Devices, and Cue Control Devices.
- The 'Options' have been simplified and are now fully contained within a single 'Options and Settings' window.
- There are now two 'operational modes': Design Mode and Performance Mode. This enables you to set different display options for production running (performance mode), such as hiding the transport controls; displaying the cue list with a larger font size, using a different color scheme, displaying a different selection of columns in the cue list on the main window, etc.
Videos Illustrating New and Changed Features in SCS 11
Two videos are available illustrating new and changed features in SCS 11. You do not need a current update plan to view the videos. Click on the required link below to view a video:
- New and Changed Features in SCS 11 - Part 1. This video provides a general introduction to SCS 11 and covers changes to Audio File cues, Video/Image cues, and some other cue types.
- New and Changed Features in SCS 11 - Part 2. This video covers changes to Production Properties, Device Maps and Options.
The following are known limitations:
- Videos can only be played using the built-in video playback engine which does not support fades of the video image.
- French language translation has only been partially implemented. Many thanks to Michel Winogradoff for supplying the French translations, but many changes have taken place in the program code since Michel supplied the translation files, so I will be working with Michel to bring the list up-to-date.
'Help' is included in the downloaded program, and is also available online at www.showcuesystems.com/scs11help.
Some Important Changes
Please note the following:
- You will need to enter your SCS registration details the first time you start SCS 11.
- SCS 11 does not use the Windows Registry (apart from when installing or uninstalling SCS 11), so any SCS 10 options you have saved will not be used by SCS 11. Likewise, any SCS 11 options you save will not affect SCS 10.
- Due to the significant number of cue file changes (such as new cue types), the cue file extension has again been changed to protect older version of SCS. Cue files save by SCS 11 will have the extension ".scs11". SCS 11 can read cue files with extensions .scs, .scsq and .scs11, but will always save with the extension .scs11. In SCS 11 you can save a cue file as an SCS 10 cue file, but note that some SCS 11 features are not backward-compatible, particularly with relation to video/image cues.
If you do not yet have an SCS license or if your update plan has expired then you may try the demo version. Click here to download the demo. Unzip and install the program as normal. Installing the demo version of SCS 11 will install the same demo cue file and audio files as SCS 10.
