First Cue Delay

Post by paul3263 » Fri Mar 11, 2011 12:25 am

I really don't know why this is happing, or if it is my hardware but when I first boot up my laptop and start up SCS, the first cue delays almost 10 seconds. If I fire off the cue before hand and stop it and reset it everything is all right after that. I call it Priming the pump. I mean it's not really a problem since you always do a sound check before hand anyway, I just thought it was worth mentioning.

I use Windows 7, with a Dell Laptop.

What version of SCS are you using?

Do you wait for disk activity to stop before firing up SCS? Is it possible that some elements of Windows 7 or Startup components or programs are still loading? How much memory does your system have?

How many cues are there in your cue file? In General Options/Permanent Options/General what figure is in the "Max. No. of Audio Files to Pre-Open" box? In the individual Audio File Cue Properties is the "Pre-Load Whole File" box checked or not? In General Options/Permanent Options/Audio Driver is the SCS Internal Mixer set to Use or Do not use?

I won't necessarily have the answer, but your extra info may help Mike to offer a solution.

All reasonable questions from Malcolm. If you do have the "Pre-Load Whole File" checkboxes selected in your Audio File cues, please clear those checkboxes. This feature was added as a possible work-around for some playback issues but is actually more trouble than it's worth. I've already removed the feature from the SCS 11 code and may well remove it from SCS 10. The problem is that it can grab a huge amount of memory, and this could explain the slow start-up time.

I am sure it is the Disc Activity, last night I let it settle down and it started just fine.

Thanks
