Cheap 8 chan USB soundcard

Post by dee99 » Sun Aug 29, 2010 8:30 am

Purchasing gear from e-buyer.com the other day I noticed this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/106540 an Asonic External USB2.0 8 Channel Sound Card for less than 15UKP. After some quick Google research I find that the Laser boys like to use it as a cheapo 8 channel DAC for their light shows.
Upshot I now have one and it works.. almost. In SCS you can set the channels up but the channels are not as numbered, i.e. the 1st pair comes out as 1 and 3 not 1and 2. Other channels are also mixed up.
In n-Track studio the channels work as they should with no crosstalk or mixed up channels. In SCS there also seemed to be output echoed onto other channels which does not happen with n-track studio.
Quality from the box is good and with sp-diff in and out plus other goodies it's a great box for the price especially if you are looking for a multi output usb card for a laptop to use on a tour or such.

So..... Question. has anyone else used one before and if so did you get the same problems?

Addendum: I tried 10.7.3rc and the test tones work as they should, so everything seems to be working at this point.
10.7.3 also fixes some of the crossed channel problem.
I have one problem left in that if I set up the 8 channels as 4 stereo pairs the volume controls do not work correctly and I get outputs on another pair as well
i.e output is selected to only pair 1 but comes out on pair 4 as well (and vice versa).
Having the volume up on pair 1 gives output on all 4 channels.

Output VU meters display what you would expect though.

Dee,

I've emailed you details of a tracing version of 10.7.3 that I'd like you to run.
