Crossfade between two Cues

Post by Rolf Paulsen » Fri Jan 04, 2013 5:45 am

Hello!
I'm gonna use SCS for a Pink Floyd tribute show.
My plan is to have two (or more) audio tracks going to different audio outputs on my soundcard.
One stereo backingtrack and one mono click track. I'm allso gonna have video on several songs.
My question: I have some songs that have some effects like wind at the end. (for example "Wish you were here") I want a crossfade to the next song, that starts with birds, bells and stuff (Like "High Hopes") seamlessly. Can i do that? And if "yes", how do i do it? :)
The next question is: Can i do it like that with Video allso? (Dissolve). If "yes", how?

Regards
Rolf

Cross-fading audio file cues is no problem at all to SCS, but how you implement this depends somewhat on how you will run the show.

Set up a cue (eg Q1) for the wind effects audio file for "Wish you were here", and another cue (eg Q2) for the birds, etc for "High Hopes". If you want to cross-fade over, say, 3 seconds, then set Q1's fade-out time to 3 seconds and set Q2's fade-in time to 3 seconds.

If you will be starting Q2 manually, probably while Q1 is still playing, then add an SFR sub-cue to Q2 to 'fade out and stop previous cue'. When you (manually) activate Q2, both the audio file sub-cue (birds, etc) and the SFR sub-cue will start simultaneously, so the bird sounds will fade in and Q2's SFR sub-cue will cause Q1 to fade out.

Alternatively, if you want to auto-start Q2 rather than manually start Q2 then you do not need the SFR sub-cue - just set Q2 to start 3 seconds before the end of the previous cue (Q1). So 3 seconds before the end of Q1, Q1 will start fading out and Q2 will start fading in.

Videos, however, cannot currently be faded in or out. I'm hoping to include a new video dll that will provide this functionality, but I haven't yet found a suitable dll.

Another problem :)
Crossfade works great for me now, as log as the Cue only have audio files.
Lets say i have Q1 with a short videofile in the middle of the cue, and a Q2, allso with a sub cue video file.
Doesnt audio cross fade work between those cues? (Theres no video at the end, or at the start of the next cue)
