I've had a look at the old threads, and my question isn't quite answered. I would like to use ADAT to connect 8 output channels to a Mackie TT24 freeing up the top mixer layer for mics.
Some time ago, I bought a Mariam Marc A to use with SCS. It is just the right device, but it doesn't work (clicks and pops), and judging by Mariam's very disgruntled customers on their forum, it is never likely to! I looked at the M-Audio Firewire 1814 but that too has been discontinued (and check out the reviews too)!
What would the brains of the forum suggest? ADAT for choice or 6-8 balanced outputs, USB2 for preference, OS currently XP, sort of £300 budget.
M-Audio Fast Track looks to be an option if I have to go analogue.
Output device advice please.

Re: Output device advice please.
The Mariam clicking and popping may be cured if you disable the SCS internal mixer. See the thread Fixing stuttering or skipping audio.
M-Audio no longer supports more than 2 outputs when using WDM drivers, and for current versions of SCS I recommend WDM. See this posting for more info.

Hallo,
clicks and pops with ADAT can be caused by sync problems. Check the sync properties from the card and mixer. One device must be master and the other is slave. Of course sample rates must match.

Sorted out the sync issues early on. Mariam have failed to address problems with drivers for this product, and others.djvomght wrote:clicks and pops with ADAT can be caused by sync problems.
The RME looks nice, as does the Octa-Capture, but they are both a bit rich for an amateur theatre!

Yeah, as i said expensive, but you get the best on earth for that price (i do also recording on location, 16 inputs without one single dropout or click)The RME looks nice, as does the Octa-Capture, but they are both a bit rich for an amateur theatre!
I use the RME HDSP 9652 pci in my home studio in a dual core machine with 3 ALESIS Ai3 8 channel converters, works also like charm (24 ADAT in and out + Sp/dif)

Weeeeelllll... I got an EMU 1212. After a bit of a struggle I got that working*, and I (briefly) had SCS running through it properly. Well, after a reboot that all stopped.
If I send a test tone from SCS, it runs through the 1212 patch, and comes out of the correct ADAT channel on the desk, and hence the correct speaker. If I play a sound effect, it only comes out of ADAT 1&2. The device column only lists FOH which corresponds to 1&2. Everything else seems right, all the outputs (3-8) are listed on the edit-show properties page.
any clues before I a) delete SCS and reinstall, b) throw the PC off the roof?
*If you insert the test tone generator in an output, it blocks any signal going through, even when "off".
