SCS crashes when pausing and replaying video (fix in 10.4.0)

Post by Thomas Webster » Fri Jan 23, 2009 3:59 am

Hi
i have just updated scs to the latest version and in playing around with the video function have been able to crash scs in various ways. The first is when playing video cues through secondary screen and trying to pause them and then continue to replay them. The error i get is
crash1.jpg
Crash 1
crash1.jpg (91.68 KiB) Viewed 916 times
It will not play this video again until the program is restarted.

The second which is less of a problem is when in the editor a testing video on the secondary screen trying to select the show option (curr. position, start at or end at) the following error message appears.
crash2.jpg
Crash 2
crash2.jpg (39.43 KiB) Viewed 917 times
Then attempting to play the video after this through the test brings up the first error message.

The third way the video fails is when a window appears over the video or is dragged across. The video screen goes black and can not be resarted with out starting the whole cue again. No error message appears. It would be nice to lock the secondary screen to the video so no other window can appear over it.

All these error occured while the video was a sub-cue.
Thanks

OK, I've been able to reproduce these errors and will work on fixes for the 'automation errors'. I don't know if there's anything I can do to prevent you dragging a window over the second display. I could bring an SCS window back to the primary display if it has been dragged to the second display, but it's too late by then as the video image will already have been blacked out. Even if I can prevent the drag, this would need to be an optional restriction because some users drag the Editor window to the second display, leaving the complete main window of SCS still visible on the primary display. However, I'll see if there's a way I can force a refresh of the video image.

Hi
Thanks for such a quick reply. What about making the video window 'always on top' a bit like the window task bar (when option is selected). This may not solve the problem but it would be very useful.
Cheers

Hi Mike, Any news on this bug - I've got a production starting next week which is relying on the pausing of videos.

navrac, I've emailed you details of a pre-release of 10.3.3 containing a fix for the pause/replay error.

This still occurs (as at 10.4.0), even though SCS has the video window marked as 'always on top'. It only affects videos, which are currently played using Windows Media Player. The new still image displays (added in 10.4.0) are not affected by dragging another window over them.
