Multiple MIDI Control Devices

Post by Pochflyboy » Mon Apr 30, 2012 3:15 pm

So here is what I want to do... I would like to have SCS control my DMX lighting software, cue the pyrotechnics firing system, and take input from a BCF2000 to control cueing all through MIDI. The problem is that I can only figure out how to send a control send to a single MIDI control device. How do I add multiple MIDI control send devices to a project? I can't figure it out!

Please note that though I have purchased a SCS10 pro license this week, I have yet to install it so maybe this is just a limitation of the demo version?

Thanks a million,
Joe

Only one MIDI Out port is supported but you can daisy-chain your MIDI devices using the 'MIDI Thru' ports. I don't know what MIDI message format you are using, but if it's something like Note On or Control Change then you would assign a unique MIDI Channel number to each device, so any MIDI messages for other devices would be ignored. For example, your DMX lighting software could be set for channel 1, your pyrotechnics firing system to channel 2, and do on. See Control Send Cues in the SCS Documentation for more info.

MIDI Show Control (MSC) has a similar concept using Device Id's. See MIDI Show Control in the SCS Documentation for more info.

Ugh... I thought that might be the case. I was planning on running some items from an internal virtual MIDI pipe and some from physical midi. Time to rethink and back to the drawing boards.

Joe,

SCS 11 supports multiple MIDI devices - I've just run a test setting up 2 MIDI Control Send devices (MIDI Yoke 2 and MIDI Yoke 3) and sent a Control Change message to Yoke 2 and a Note On message to Yoke 3. Both successfully monitored by MIDI-OX.
