Crossfading FOH music to 'radio' on set: Looking for help!

Post by TheSpyHusband » Sun Mar 04, 2012 1:28 am

Hi,

I've run in to a little problem that's turning out to be a bit of a head-scratcher...

My group's next production calls for opening music to be played through FOH then crossfades to a speaker on stage for a radio.
In SCS I have a Q1 which is the 'normal' music and on Q2 an 'EQ'd/filtered' version for the radio. I've set it up so that they both play simultaneously. I then have a fade cue to fade out Q1 and leave Q2 playing. However, as soon as Q1 has completed its fade, Q2 stops. I can't work out how to keep Q2 playing.

I must stress that I've only tried this on my home PC that doesn't have a multi output soundcard. The show PC does, and I'll set it up so that Q1 will play through FOH and Q2 will play through the DS or US speaker. I don't think the lack of multi output on my PC is causing the issue as I'm guessing the audio will still play regardless of where it is routed to?

Just wondered if anyone has a workaround for this, or can tell me of I'm missing something really obvious!

Thanks in advance

Read the help file section "Linked Audio Files".

Chances are that the doctored file used in Q2 is the same length as the original in Q1 and thus becomes linked. Change the end point slightly in one of the cues and the two files will "unlink". Then Q2 will continue playing after Q1 has been faded out.

The files are indeed linked. I never thought to actually look at how to 'unlink' them... I think my brain was hurting too much!

Thanks for the tip, I shall get it fixed asap. Top marks to this forum for the speedy help!
