projecting images

When editing at home on a small laptop, I can get SCS to show images on a second screen which is a desktop computer monitor. When SCS detects the screen, the latter goes to black as the program intends it to and then it shows pictures when they are cued in. However, in the theatre, when I connect the larger laptop there to a projector rather than a monitor, there is no going to black and the projector shows the entire SCS screen with tool bar, cues etc etc, as well as the 'thumbnail' view of the image - not what's wanted at all. Furthermore, if I go into the editor and try to use the facility to 'test' images on a second screen, I find this option is not available. Anybody got any ideas?

You have to enable the second monitor in the screen properties of your laptop
Set it to extended dashboard

Are the laptops Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7? Setting up for projector use on an Extended Desktop is rather simpler in Windows 7.

On a laptop you usually have to select the external display using 'Function' and some other key, typically F7. On my Sony Vaio in Windows 7 the alternatives offered include 'Computer only', 'Duplicate', 'Extend' and 'Projector only'. Your home laptop may be doing this automatically.

In Windows XP you usually have to select both screens to be active, using the Function key combination. I find it best to have the projector switched on before booting so that Windows recognises it. Then go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Display | Settings. Click on the secondary monitor (projector) and check 'Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor'. OK out. Then start SCS and it should detect the second screen and behave accordingly.

If you are likely to use the laptop without the projector next time, I prefer to go back into the Display properties and uncheck the extended screen option before shutting down, to avoid confusing Windows on the next start.

As a final check, which versions of SCS are you using on the laptops, the same or different? In the development of the implementation of video in SCS there have been issues with some version/computer combinations, that affected the
behaviour of the second screen.
