Registered users with current update plans (including users who purchased or upgraded their SCS license during the last 12 months) may download SCS 10.8.1 from the Members' Download page.

If you have not yet installed 10.8.0 then please also see the release notice for 10.8.0 here.

List of Changes
The following changes are included in 10.8.1:
  • Fixed a few bugs that were in 10.8.0, particularly with regard to 'error 9' (subscript out of range).
  • Added an Audio Driver option 'Swap speakers 3/4 with 5/6'. See below for more info.
  • Added a property to the video/image cue type to allow you to stretch (if necessary) videos to full screen size. See below for more info.
Swap speakers 3/4 with 5/6
There has always been a potential for outputs 3/4 and 5/6 to be the wrong way round on a 6- or 8-channel sound card. This is not a bug but an inconsistency in output routing standards. For example, on a 7.1 sound card the outputs may all be correct, but on another 8-channel card that's not described as '7.1 surround sound' but as '8 channel multiple output' or similar, then outputs 3/4 and 5/6 may be the wrong way round.

If you find your outputs 3/4 and 5/6 are the wrong way round then there is a new option you can set in the Audio Driver options. This is labelled Swap speakers 3/4 with 5/6. If you change this option you may need to close and restart SCS for this to take effect. Please note that this option is only used for 6- and 8-channel sound cards as these are the only configurations that have the problem. Also, it is not used with ASIO outputs or with the SM-S audio driver.

Full screen videos and images
A new property has been added to video/image cues: Stretch Size to Full Screen. This only affects output to the secondary monitor or video projector. Videos and images are normally shown to the maximum size permitted by the screen, retaining the aspect ratio of the source image. This typically results in a black border above and below the image, or to the sides of the image. If you want your video or image to fill the entire screen, not leaving any black borders at all, then select this checkbox. This may give you a distorted image, stretched either vertically or horizontally, but in many cases this stretching may not be very noticable.

This property is implemented for still images, and for videos played using xVideo. As this property is set for each cue or sub-cue, you can choose which of your videos and images you want stretched to full screen.

SCS Installer
As mentioned in the release notice for 10.8.0, another significant change in 10.8 is related to the SCS installation process, which you will be doing if you install 10.8. Previously when you installed SCS the application name was 'Sound Cue System'. The application name has been changed to 'SCS 10'. If you decide to change over to SCS 10.8 you should uninstall the application 'Sound Cue System', but don't do that yet until after you have run SCS 10.8 at least once so that 10.8 can pick up the registry settings saved by your earlier version. We now recommend that after uninstalling you then re-install the latest SCS 10.8 version. This is because the uninstall may have affected the newer version, and a re-install of the newer version will clean that up.

With this minor release, we have not emailed notifications via the mailing list.
