help with Saffire 6 USB please (solved)
help with Saffire 6 USB please (solved)
I have got a new Saffire 6 USB, and need help please. I am using Sound Cue System (can't remember version no, as I'm on different computer for 'net access). The problem I'm having is that I can get sound coming out of the Saffire using outputs 1 & 2, but not 3 & 4. Anybody got any ideas please?

Re: help with Saffire 6 USB please
A couple of things to check:
Firstly, under Options / Audio Driver, do you have 'Force enabling of speaker assignments' checked? By setting this option, the audio library used by SCS should assume 8 speakers available even if the sound card's driver only publishes 2 speakers.
Secondly, go to the Windows Control Panel, select Sounds and Audio Devices and select the Saffire. The information displayed may vary between devices but what you need to do is make sure the speaker configuration is set to 6 speakers rather than a stereo setup. Unfortunately some sound card drivers do not allow you access to the speaker configuration - I don 't know about the Saffire as I do not have access to this device.
Some devices publish multiple outputs as stereo pairs, eg one 'device' for outputs 1/2, a second 'device' for 3/4, and so on. This makes using the whole device much easier in SCS.

Re: help with Saffire 6 USB please
Hi Mike, In SCS, the 'Force enabling of speaker assignments' is checked.
In Windows, I have selected the Saffire, but still no joy.
I have also tried the following: Windows - Control Panel, then Sounds & Audio Devices to adjust settings, under the volume tab, I am not able to adjust anything, it is all disabled with no option to enable.
Under the Audio tab, Sound Playback, I can choose A or B as detailed below:
A: If I click on Volume it comes up with "There is a problem with your sound hardware. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware". This is absolute rubbish as there is no such option as Printers and Other Hardware in Control Panel.
What there is either 1 or 2 as detailed below:
1. Printers And Faxes - nothing at all to do with sound.
2. Add Hardware - I have tried using this, but still get no joy.
B: If I click on Advanced, I have tried selecting Quadrophonic Speakers, (the nearest appropriate option I can find to), but there is no test button available, and still get nothing when in SCS.
None of the other sound programs installed on the laptop appear to have the facility for routing sound to different devices.
Regarding cabling etc, I have tried using the audio cable that works with outputs 1 & 2 in the outputs 3 & 4, I have also used the same proven inputs on the mixer, but that still does not provide a solution.
I would very much appreciate your reply to this.

Re: help with Saffire 6 USB please
Update to my last posting.
In my ongoing efforts to get things sorted, I decided to try downloading the demo version (10.7.2) of the latest SCS, this has bought about partial success. As well as RCA’s 1 & 2, we now get sound out of RCA’s 3 & 4.
The only slight problem is that I still can’t get it to send sound to a single specific speaker, e.g. Stage Left FX.
One thing I have noticed in this latest version is in the Settings page in Editor, it offers me the option of using the 'FOCUSRITE USB ASIO Driver'. If I select any thing else other than this I get no sound.
This option is not offered in the version of SCS that I currently use, which is 9.5.3.

Just updating this topic: chalky740 has advised me that upgrading to the latest version of SCS has fixed the issue he was having. For this testing, chalky740 was using a pre-release of 10.7.3.
