Show Cue System

...well, not kicking, but not doing much apart from collecting dust. If it could be pressed into service with SCS it will save a new PC!

It's an ACER M1640, so an el-cheapo PC, but do you reckon it might work (before I install Windows and check)? The spec is:
- Pentium Dual Core E2160 1.8 GHz
- 2GB RAM

The SCS requirements are up to 8 channels of simultaneous audio out (over ADAT lightpipe from an ASIO interface), and a few MIDI show control commands. No video at all.

The only thing that concerns me about this configuration is the ASIO requirement. Can you use a WDM driver instead of ASIO? If not, try SCS with ASIO on this machine and see how it performs.

Theoretically yes I can use the WDM drivers for the interface (it's a Tascam FW1804).

Do you mind me asking why one would choose WDM over ASIO? It's probably me being slightly snobbish, but in general I would always choose ASIO over any other driver on Windows (incidentally, it's a custom drop of XP Pro SP3 with almost everything turned off - at load up the system takes up about 55MB). Are there any latency issues with WDM (in terms of triggering, not input because I'm not using any live input on this system).

There is more processing overhead in SCS when using ASIO, and if the processor is not up to it then you may gets clicks or noise in the playback. This issue will be addressed in a future release of SCS by reducing the length of the ASIO processing path.

Most WDM drivers these days perform well and I don't think you'll have any latency concerns.
