sound output problem (solved)

Today I cannot produce any sound with SCS.
My laptop will output sound with windows media player but when a cue is activated it immediatly
goes to the next. If I go into edit and try to play from there the computer hangs ?
A second beginners query I am afraid but very frustrating.
Have tried to fix in general options / mixer - no success
