Compatibility with Alesis io26

I just switched out my own M-Audio FW-410 for our group's new Alesis io26 firewire interface, but I'm having a problem. In the Sound Device tab of the Production Properties window, the FW410 offers its four stereo outputs for assignment. But with the Alesis, it only offers the main Alesis Firewire Audio, no individual stereo pairs.

Yet, in Audition and Logic Audio, the pairs are available.

I know on the 410 setup menu there is a toggle that tells the output pairs to show up as devices, which is what allows me to see them in SCS. But I can't find anything like that on the io26.

Is anyone using SCS with the io26? Did you have this problem and find a resolution to it?

Hi Neil . . . I don't actually know the Alesis io26 but it does look like a nice device . . . 8 analog outputs?

With regards to your problem, I've found that certain combinations of XP, VISTA and device drivers for different products do change the way that sound device outputs are displayed and selected within SCS.

If in your case the 'Physical Device' column shows only the device name then you should find that you can select the available outputs, eg 1 + 2 Stereo, 3 Mono etc., under the 'Speakers/Outputs' column drop down options. However, some drivers may show it the other way round, ie the available outputs are selected under the 'Physical Device' column and you then select Stereo or Mono under the 'Speakers/Outputs' column.

Hope this helps . . . . . .

Cheers . . . Martin

Thanks, Martin! That's just what it was.

I like the Alesis so far, though I haven't had the opportunity to use it for its intended purpose, which is to record voices for audio drama. I've done single track recording and the quality has been great, but the real test will be recording 8 tracks at once. :-)
