Hey,
I've been using SCS on my laptop without issue since I purchased it back in March. I had Windows Home Premium 64bit SP1 with 4 gigs of RAM.
Well I haven't used the program for a couple of weeks and today I find that it crashes instantly as the splash screen comes up. I checked the forum but couldn't find anything to help me. Since then I have downloaded and installed the latest version of SCS and I have the same problem. Then I just updated my OS to service pack 2 hoping that might fix it.. Nope.
Please, if anyone can help, I would very much appreciate it.
Oh BTW the only thing I can think of that is different then when SCS worked flawlessly is that I have installed Nero 9. Could that be it?
Thanks in advance
Adam

I'll email you with details of a test I'd like you to try.

Wow!
Just want to say publicly that Mike emailed me to begin his tests within half an hour. Now that's Customer service!
Thanks so much and I am looking forward to Mike doing his magic, so I can once again enjoy SCS.

The problem appears to be some incompatibility between the ASIO handler used in SCS and something else in the machine. Adam is getting around this temporarily by using a facility that forces SCS to ignore ASIO.

Hey Mike,
I finally got around to installing the latest version and am having the same old issue. I tried starting SCS while holding down the right Ctr button, but it will not open the program. I know you added the bypass ASIO feature in the settings but how do I start the initial use, to set that?
Thanks in advance
Adam

Oops - that fix wasn't quite right

I'll email you a link to a working fix. When you get that and install the program, the approach is as follows:
- Hold down Right-Ctrl to start SCS - this will cause SCS to ignore ASIO.
- Go to General Options / Permanent Options and click on the Audio Driver tab.
- Tick the 'Ignore ASIO' checkbox and then click the OK button to save the Audio Driver Option changes.
SCS will then ignore ASIO each time you start the program,
without you having to hold down Right-Ctrl. If you ever need to re-enable ASIO in SCS, clear the 'Ignore ASIO' checkbox and close and restart SCS.

I have a similar problem (I'm running 10.5.0)
I've just rebuilt my laptop from the recovery disk and updated it with all the latest windows update. When I start SCS, it freezes after a minute or so. I then have to reboot the laptop because it is completely frozen, the mouse won't even move.
If I start SCS with the right control key pressed it's fine BUT, I need the ASIO drivers because I have a four channel sound card (Novation Nio 2/4).
I've tried disabling the internal sound card, which uses a Crystal WDM driver, but that doesn't help. There's nothing wrong with the hardware because it worked before I reinstalled the OS.
The only difference I can see if that it used to use an Intel Integrated Audio driver for the internal card and now it's using the Crystal one. I've checked with IBM and they recommend the Crystal one and when I disable it completely, I still get the same problem so that doesn't look like the source.
I have a show this week (and I need all four channels) so I'm panicing a bit. I do have a backup laptop but it's a work one, which means it's running anti-virus and has a screensaver, all of which I'd normally disable on my own machine and I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of what's running in the background.

Can you get a WDM driver for the Novation Nio? I quickly glanced thru the Novation web site info on the Nio 2/4 and couldn't find any info on what drivers are available. Have you contacted Novation Tech Support?

Mike,
I haven't yet because I'm in the theatre this week.
I use ASIO because the normal "soundcard" style driver only enables two channels and I need four - unless I'm using the wrong sort of driver.
