10.4 Blue Screen Crash with ASIO MME

I keep getting blue screen crashes when I start SCS 10.4 . I get a dialog box saying the ASIO MME configuration has changed and asking whether to test it. The crash happens between 1 and 10 seconds after that.

At first I thought the problem was my EMU Cardbus PC Card sound card, so I uninstalled this to rely on my on-board Realtek chip. This worked for a while, then I installed an application called Total Recorder, which installs a driver for a virtual sound card. I need something like this so I can record audio streams. Now I get exactly the same problem.

I do love all the new features in SCS 10 and I'm about to do a show using video cues, but right now I'm tearing my hair out as I can't get past this problem. Is there any way to get SCS to ignore ASIO all together? Would this help if it could?

Any help vastly appreciated.

Yes, there is an undocumented way, which was included during the early stages of testing ASIO. Hold down the Right Ctrl Key while you start scs10.exe and the program will ignore ASIO. Note that it must be the right ctrl key, not the left ctrl key. Whether or not this will help, I can't say, but it does seem likely as SCS will not be trying to initialize any ASIO devices.

Gosh! That's not the answer I was expecting. It seems to work fine doing that. Thank you so much. Fingers crossed it will keep working.

As I said earlier, I love all the new features in version 10, many of which I have wished for and some of which I even asked for (like bulk edit of cues - no more hacking the xml for me!).

Cheers,
Matt
