Playlist Entry causes Windows Fault (part fix in 10.4.0)

Post by Dan » Sun Feb 22, 2009 6:59 am

Hi Mike. I've encountered an, apparently recoverable, problem that I have been able to recreate on two separate machines. I'm running 10.3.2 pro on Windows XP machines - one laptop and one tower. The problem shows up when I have an existing scs cue file that I have saved, and later come back to enter a playlist. So for example, I've built and tested all of my cues for a show, and after running the first few days of Tech, I go back in to add in the preshow/intermission music on playlists, and here's what happens.

When I go into the Editor, and click on the Add Playlist Cue button, the loaded cue list window that shows behind the editor Modal window begins to flash, like the cues are refreshing repeatedly. This flashing continues until I make my first audio file selection for the playlist. Everything seems fine after that, as I am able to test the playlist and other cues. But, when I close down SCS normally, I get a Windows popup box that says ""Sound Cue System has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenence.". This is the same box that asks if I want to send the error report to Microsoft.

But, other than the flashing, and the popup error, SCS seems to work OK, and save the data OK, because when I subsequently restart SCS, the changes I made (including the addition of the playlist), are all there and work fine. SCS doesn't crash, and the windows fault popup only seems to happen when I initiate a shutdown of the program. Subsequent playlists that I add still cause the flashing background screen when in the editor, but I don't receive the Microsoft fault popup again.

So I guess this may just be FYI to you, as it is only a scary situation the first time it happens (did my data get trashed???), but it doesn't seem to cause any actual data or performance problems. Just wanted to report it.

Yes, I've come across that myself. A fix is ready for the next release, which I expect to have available by the end of this month.

Fix in 10.4.0 for the flashing cue panels, but there is still an issue with editing playlists causing a windows fault message. Haven't been able to resolve that one yet, but it only occurs after the very last internal operation when closing the program, so it seems to be relatively harmless.
